Use Flags to Assess a Relationship

jodyandrews, June 21, 2024July 7, 2024

The red flags are usually there, you just have to keep your eyes open wider than your heart.
–April Mae Monterrosa

A colorful and experiential way to assess the health of a relationship is to create your own mini flag display. It is especially handy when dating. Make a handful of each: green, yellow and red flags from sticky notes and stir sticks. Plant in a small flowerpot filled with beans or pebbles. While you are evaluating a relationship, pay close attention to what is said and done. Assess your observations and interaction(s) based on the three essentials: reciprocity, reliability and respect. Plant green flags realistically with your eyes wide open. Yellow flags are for those areas of uncertainty – proceed with caution. Red flags are for those behaviors that give you pause and serious concern. Trust your intuition – it may save future frustration and heartache.
