Connected Conversations in Romantic Relationships

jodyandrews, July 29, 2024August 2, 2024

The key to really connecting with someone is identifying what kind of conversation they’re trying to have, whether it’s a stranger or your spouse of 20 years.
–Charles Duhigg

It seems that often couples who end their relationship are suffering from “irreconcilable communications”. It makes me wonder how much emotional intimacy was present when initially dating. A recent search for “relationship meet ups” or “speed dating” indicated many events were being held online or even while working out. Seriously, is this the best way to find an intimate partner? I suggest organizers start in-person events called “Wine, Cheese and Connected Conversations”. Within a prescribed time format, assign deeper conversation topics that challenge a person’s ability to be authentic and even vulnerable. At the same time, it would be an opportunity to determine the other person’s willingness to hold emotional space and really listen. It might even attract more sincere, serious, relationship seekers. If two people can rise to this challenge and share a genuine moment of connection in this environment, there might be hope for their future
