Don’t pass up a chance by dumping someone after a first date because you don’t feel the fireworks. The fireworks can happen at any time and be maintained. –Helen Fisher
Passion involves feelings and desires that lead to physical attraction, romance, and sexual consummation. After the initial fireworks, it can morph into shared enthusiasms such as interests and activities. We often hear it said that there is just “no spark”. “Spark” is brain chemistry that often leads to trouble – dubious one-night stands, extramarital affairs, a regretful trip to the Elvis Chapel. It is the equivalent of putting your finger in a light socket. You get one helluva charge, but it is not such a good idea. On the other hand, since the mundane is a passion killer, couples must work to create and keep “spark”, and it will look different for everyone.
