I have plenty of friends I don’t like. –Julian Fellows (Lady Violet of Downton Abbey)
At this point decide if this a one, two or three circle friendship. If less than three, what is workable, what you are willing to put up with? Social media without a face-to-face or real time connection? I would give it a one-circle relationship. Reciprocity and reliability may be enough for us as part of a shared activity such as a club or hobby – so give it a two-circle relationship. We may find we enjoy the company of someone with deeply shared values who is also a good listener, however their frustrating lack of reciprocity or reliability leaves us with a single circle association. When all three; reciprocity, reliability and respect are present, you have a good friend. Nurture the relationship.
