Sometimes you have to give up on people. Not because you don’t care, but because they don’t. — Jennifer Green
If your friendship is draining you, or lacking more of the essentials than it is providing, it’s time to let it go. Depending on the level of closeness, the loss of a friendship can be gut wrenching. Learn the process of grieving. After you have had time to recover, start reaching out to others. Maybe initially you just need someone else to fill that person’s empty seat at your game table, sporting event, or team activity. Look to social groups that share your passions, activities or values and leave yourself open to forming new friendships. Like a threadbare comforter that is no longer comforting, it might be time to give it up and find a new one.
