Communicate as a Solution to Relationship Problems

Etiquette is really about being respectful and honest with individuals and speaking your truth. –Elaine Swann

Texting has become our “go to” for more informal means of communication. It is easy, and if it is short (as it should be) takes less than a minute. A reply takes ten seconds. Less if you just do an emoji. An unanswered text can create anxiety. A Google research study found that 20 minutes was the magic number for a desired response. This is not always practical. While the exact amount of time is debatable among etiquette experts, somewhere between 24 and 48 hours seems an acceptable range. Then you may send a second quick reminder text. Still no response? Etiquette expert Diane Gottsman weighs in with: “If someone ‘ghosts’ you, take the hint and walk away. You do not deserve to be treated disrespectfully. Don’t continue to reach out to someone who will not respond back and think carefully about the excuses they give once they pop back in your life several months later.”
