Adaptation

People only accept change when they are faced with necessity, and only recognize necessity when a crisis is upon them. –Jean Monnet

There is an adage that if a frog is put in a pot of boiling water he will jump out. However, if placed in very gradually heating water, he won’t notice the heat increasing and will eventually perish. While the logistics of the theory have been debunked, the frog in boiling water has come to mean slowly adapting to any gradually deteriorating situation. Like the frog, it is often easier to stay than it is to jump out when you first notice the problem. Co-dependency can be part of this dynamic. You accommodate, adapt and adjust. You keep trying harder to make things better and might not notice just how bad it has become until it is too late.
