I hope we’ll get lucky enough to grow old together. — Paula Mclain
Commitment is not about the formal ceremony. It is an emotional investment in your future together. I believe it begins when your toothbrushes start sharing the same holder. It is a frame of mind and if it is not there, why waste the time and energy? A young man brought his fiancé’ “bridezilla” to my office for premarital counseling. Five minutes into our initial session she stomped out on her stilettos, saying “I don’t have time for this relationship s**t, I have a wedding to plan”. That about said it all. While we often move too quickly to end a relationship when the going gets tough, in this case, I found myself hoping he would become a runaway bridegroom. It only took one statement and five minutes to see that commitment and most of the other essentials were missing.
